Thank you for your interest in applying to attend The Studion School for Spiritual Direction, a two-year, part-time training in the ministry of spiritual direction in the Christian tradition. We are confident that this training will be a significant time of personal growth and preparation for ministry. We look forward to receiving your application.

Applications for the next cohort (C4) will open February 28, 2022 For start date of january 8, 2023

Along with the application, a non-refundable application fee of $150 is required. This fee can be made via etransfer to thestudionschool@gmail.com. Please see the fees page for more information about course fees.

The application process will consist of four parts: 1) your response to a series of application questions; 2) two reference letters; 3) an interview; and 4) an institutional administrative registration.

The questions that follow are intended to allow us to get to know you; but they are also a way for you to reflect on your life, your faith-journey and your readiness for training in spiritual direction.

Tell the story of your faith/spiritual development. As you do so, you can use the following list of questions to help activate your thinking, remembering and focus. You do not need to answer each one. What are the beginnings and roots of your life with God? What are some of the significant events and turning points? Who are the influential people? How have your spiritual gifts, special interests and passions developed? What has happened to you? How have you been shaped? How has your image of God, self, others, and the world, changed? What have been some of your most significant insights? What kind of healing have you found? What are you most grateful for? What world events have influenced your faith and spiritual growth?

Describe your present spiritual practices (prayer, rituals, community life, service, journaling, dream work, social justice, receiving spiritual direction, etc.) and how they benefit you.

Describe your relationship and belonging to a faith community. How do you benefit the community; how does it benefit you?

Describe your educational (formal/informal) background in such things as theology, scripture, spirituality, psychology, the fine arts, discernment.

At present, are you receiving spiritual direction? If so, how long have you been seeing a spiritual director?

What is your understanding of the ministry of spiritual direction? What is your attraction to this training and ministry?

In taking this training in spiritual direction, how do you hope to grow? What do you hope to gain?

All things considered (financial, life-situation, health, family, stage of life), tell us about your readiness to engage in this course of study. Please make reference to the kind of support you can count on from friends, family and your faith community. Looking ahead, is there anything that might keep you from completing this two-year program?

Reference Letters

Please provide two reference letters: one from a spiritual leader in your faith community (Pastor, Priest, Deacon, etc.), and another from a colleague or co-worker in ministry.

Note:

We strongly recommend that participants begin to see a spiritual director before the program begins. This will help with your understanding of spiritual direction and may help in discerning whether the program is for you. Studion facilitators will be happy to help applicants find a spiritual director if needed.
